About the Life is Precious Evaluation Project
The Life is Precious Evaluation is a collaboration with with Comunilife to assess the effectiveness of its Life is Precious ™ program in reducing suicidal ideation and behaviors among Latina youth.
This project is part of the Prevention of Suicidal Behavior in Diverse Populations initiative at the NYSPI Center of Excellence for Cultural Competence, which supports the New York Office of Mental Health’s goal of reducing suicide in diverse populations.
Project details
With grant funding from New York Community Trust (NYCT), the current project is conducting a control trial in 4 boroughs to determine the effectiveness of Comunilife’s Life is Precious ™ in reducing suicidal ideation and behavior, improving school performance, and enhancing family relationships among Latina adolescents.
This project is comparing the effectiveness of standard outpatient mental health treatment with Comunilife’s Life is Precious ™ clubhouse model versus outpatient mental health treatment alone.
Participants of the Life is Precious ™ program are Latina adolescents at risk for suicidal behavior (e.g. history of recent suicide attempt, suicidal ideation) and be under the care of a clinician for mental health treatment.
The project has developed the following intervention tools to support the implementation and replicability of the model: Life is Precious (LIP) Program Manual, a Fidelity Manual and Assessment and a Training Activity Guide.
